Responsible Mining Is NOT Possible in the Philippines
by Ryan Chua, ABS-CBaN News

-->Mining can really be harmful to our nature; people cannot avoid damaging the nature while mining. Believing it or not, it slowly damages our nature. Mining can be stopped, if the government here in the Philippines wants to stop it, but we may not know that there are lots of government officials that deal with the under the table when it comes to this kind of destructive activity, especially nowadays, people are struggling with money problems. We cannot stop these people/companies from mining when the government did not take any serious action or initiate some laws regarding mining. Only the government has the authority to take the initiative to start to say no to mining.

  1. I agree on what the blogger said, if the government in the first place take mining as a serious illegal thing and will take actions on every person or organization that breaks the law on illegal mining, we will have a good and healthy environment and also will not disturb our farmers. Mining is not good in our environment and to us humans so its up to our government if they really want a beautiful Philippines.

  2. I believe rules, policies, and regulations related to mining activities are present in the Philippines. There is this RA 7942 which is the Mining Act of 1995 to provide the rules and policies related to mineral resources exploration, development, utilization, and conservation. However, the problem lies in the enforcement of the act. It appears to me that the act mostly contains detailed regulations pertaining to the accompanied taxes, permits, renewal of this permits and
contains only few things on the protection for and wise management of the environment. Furthermore, laws or policies like this are not enough to educate the miners themselves. Each miner must be aware and act responsibly for their safety and the safety of our environment. There should be these people who would reach them personally and educate them about the importance and disadvantages of mining.
